Frequently Asked Questions.
Clear answers. No legalese.
What does PJ Legal specialise in?
We’re a boutique, all-women law firm focused on corporate law, property law (including conveyancing), litigation & dispute resolution, and notarial services. If it involves contracts, property, or legal peace of mind—we’re your people.
What is conveyancing, and do I need it?
Conveyancing is the legal process of transferring property ownership from one person to another. If you’re buying or selling a home, a piece of land, or a commercial space—you’ll need a conveyancer (that’s us!). We’ll handle the paperwork, registrations, and legal steps to ensure everything goes off without a hitch.
What’s the difference between a notary and an attorney?
All notaries are attorneys, but not all attorneys are notaries. A notary public is a specially qualified attorney who can certify and authenticate documents for international use and draft antenuptial contracts. Basically, if your documents need a signature and a seal—you need a notary.
Can you help with business contracts?
Absolutely. We can assist with company setups, restructuring, compliance, and general business law advice, including the drafting of business contracts such as shareholders’ agreements, leases, NDAs, or just a good old-fashioned contract review.
I’m in a legal dispute. Do I have to go to court?
Not always! We’ll first explore alternatives like negotiation or mediation in an attempt to reach a settlement. It’s faster, less costly, and way less stressful than immediately rushing off to court. Finding the right strategy to resolve a dispute or manage the litigation process is crucial. If a court process is necessary, we’re qualified and experienced litigation lawyers to represent you and protect your interests in court.
What does a typical consultation involve?
It’s a relaxed conversation where we get to know your legal needs, explain your options, and outline the next steps. No pressure, no jargon. Just clarity and good advice. Any court case or commercial drafting instruction is dependent upon the underlying facts, so the more clarity we have on the relevant facts, the better equipped we are to deliver on your instruction.
Do you work with clients outside of Cape Town?
Yes! Many of our services (like contract drafting, notarial consulting, litigation and legal advice) can be handled remotely. We work with clients across South Africa and beyond. We attend to property transactions and litigation in other provinces through the assistance of trusted correspondent attorneys.
How much will it cost?
Our pricing is transparent and fair. Depending on the service, we offer fixed fees or hourly rates. If required we’ll give you a clear quote before we start and we send invoices at regular intervals. No surprise bills, ever.
Is it true your whole team is made up of women?
Yes, and we’re proud of it! We bring a fresh, inclusive perspective to the legal space, with a strong focus on empathy, collaboration, and client connection. But mostly, we are a great team who all happen to be women.
How do I get started?
Simple! Head to our Contact Page, send us a message, or give us a call. We’ll get back to you quickly to book a consultation and start finding smart solutions for your legal needs.
